We hope you had a great summer!
The Way Out West gigs at the Drayton Court Hotel (West Ealing) are going well and are happening on the third Wednesday of the month.
I’ll be there with my own band – the Tony Woods Project – on 17th September with special guest Chris Allard on guitar.
The Tony Woods Project plays its own brand of melodic, folk inspired jazz and has received great critical acclaim for its four albums:
“Colourful, evocative music from one of the most distinctive groups on the UK jazz scene” The Jazzmann
“Emotional and warmly personal music” (the Guardian)
★★★★ (the Guardian)
★★★★ (Jazzwise)
★★★★ (The Jazzmann)
★★★★ (Jazz Journal)
I also get a mention in the Jazzwise review of the Way Out West Tony Kinsey Tribute gig back in July:
“Tony Woods’ superb soprano taking a more spacious route…” (Peter Vacher)

Chippings From The Woods Shed:
I’ve started doing a series of short solo recordings at home entitled Stories from the 14th Storey.
This Second Story I played on my John Packer student model saxophone JP041 (rather than my Selmer Mark 6!) and I think it demonstrates good use of space and repetition, which is something I have talked about in these Chippings. I even follow Miles Davis’ advice and take the horn out of my mouth at one point… but what is the tune??
