Chippings From The Woods Shed:
Keep listening to music! All the time. In the car, at home, always – this feeds your inner resource of musical ideas. Sing along with the solos you know -if you want to. It’s ok to listen to the same album over and over to really get to know it – perhaps things were easier when there were fewer albums available – we now have the whole world at our finger tips on our phones but maybe that isn’t all we need – deep listening to the same music is actually really good for us musically and spiritually… I had a good friend at college who didn’t practise the saxophone much – he was already a very good player technically – but he listened to music all the time and he was brilliant! That was quite a revelation to me as I’ve always been a practiser!
