Hi everybody,
Great fun playing for the sold out audience at Bracknell Jazz last Friday night! Thanks to Simon Cook for putting these gigs on and inviting us! Here’s a clip of me playing Look For The Silver Lining.

Nette and I will be performing Poems, Tales and Magical Lands with Meredith White on piano at the Settlement, Letchworth on the 23rd January.

And Way Out West will be at Cafe Posk  on the 30th January with its Homage to the Jazz Messengers and Friends.

On Sunday February 1st Nette and I will be joined by Meredith White at the Login Lounge, Camberley. Last time I was there this happened, so am hoping we won’t get a repeat performance..

Chippings From The Woods Shed:

Sometimes it’s good to give your solo shape by starting slow and building to a high point, then coming down, like the sun rising and setting.  A classic example is Oliver Nelson’s solo on Stolen Moments from the album Blues and The Abstract Truth. You can start with long notes that just float over the form and then gradually become more energetic and rhythmic. Register is also relevant here –  start low and save the super high notes to the high point of the solo. Tell your story. As here
