We had a great time gigging in November: Way Out West performed the “Train and the River” at the Drayton Court Hotel as part of the EFG London Jazz Festival. Here’s a clip of Blue Train

The new year kicks off for Nette and I with a gig at South Hill Park Arts Centre, Bracknell for Bracknell Jazz on 9th January.
Nette and I are also performing Poems, Tales and Magical Lands with Meredith White on piano at the Settlement, Letchworth on the 23rd January.
And Way Out West will be at Cafe Posk on the 30th January with its Homage to the Jazz Messengers and Friends.
On February 1st Nette and I will be joined by Meredith White at the Login Lounge, Camberley. Last time I was there this happened, so am hoping we won’t get a repeat performance..

Tell your own story. By which I mean find your own way of doing things and link one idea to the next somehow – that can be by repeating a shape, a rhythmic or melodic motif. Allow the ideas just to grow organically, to unfold naturally like a flower…
Obviously there is a place for learning diminished licks, bebop scales, tritone substitutions etc etc, but these should not be the starting place. Start simply with two notes and see what happens! As here
