The Way Out West gigs at the Turk’s Head, Twickenham have been going really well and we had a great time there with the Tony Woods Project a couple of weeks ago.
Nette and I will be out gigging together again in June:
On the Saturday 8th June we’ll be performing her Russian programme at the Tea House Theatre in Vauxhall, with Terence Collie on piano. Ticket link here
On Friday the 21st June we’ll be doing settings of poetry with the lovely pianist Meredith White at Carshalton Jazz. Ticket link here
And on Saturday 22nd June we’ll be at the Parade’s End Bookshop, Ham also with Meredith. Ticket link here
At the end of the month on Sunday 30th June we’ll be back at Hampton Hub with Nette’s Little Big Band playing the music of Duke Ellington and Count Basie with a severely reduced lineup -always a lot of fun! Starts 7.00 pm. Ticket link here

Other News:
This Sunday 2nd June sees the great Tim Whitehead performing at the Turk’s Head, Twickenham with this Personal Standards Quartet.
“Those of us who have caught him live… have been left in blinking disbelief. It’s not just his mastery of the tenor saxophone, phenomenal though it is, but the absolute conviction of his playing that is so impressive.” – Dave Gelly, The Observer/BBC

Chippings From The Woods Shed:
With all the excitement of playing a solo it’s easy to forget to leave space – practice the Play/Rest approach as suggested in Hal Crook’s excellent book “How To Improvise”. Eg Play 2 bars, Rest 2 bars. Play 3 bars, Rest 1 bar etc.
